Fruitville, Florida Man Shot Dead After Creeping Into Stranger’s Bed With Machete, Sarasota Officials Say

A Florida man was shot dead Thursday after breaking into a stranger’s home, getting into bed with the landlord and saying “I love you” while wielding a machete, authorities said.

The victim was sleeping in an apartment attached to his home in Fruitville, Florida, when the strange ordeal began. The unnamed homeowner awoke to find the intruder lying next to the victim’s machete. The armed man – who has not been identified by authorities – whispered his sweet things to the victim when he woke him up.

“I have an intruder who broke into my house,” the victim told the 911 dispatcher, Fox 35 report. “He had a damn machete and he got hit a bit.”

The victim added: “I woke up on a mattress and there was a guy lying next to me saying, ‘I love you. I was surprised. He was holding my machete in his hand. ”

The fearsome home invader is also said to be sharpening the giant blade with a baseball bat. After calling for help, the homeowner fled the property.

The sheriff’s office said four deputies from the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to the apartment and found an armed intruder inside around 9:30 a.m. other delegates shot the suspect. Officers attempted to treat the intruder after he was shot, but he eventually died from his wounds. The homeowner escaped the horrifying incident without injury.

“I pray to God that he did not lose his finger or hand,” a spokesman said of the injured co-pilot. “I can tell you it’s not life-threatening, but they are serious injuries.” The spokesperson added: “Unfortunately, this is a bad ending to a really bad situation. Any day that our delegates have to open fire, it’s not a good day.”

A spokesman said the injured co-pilot will require surgery on his hand.
