ADVICE – Ford Motor has always treated the Mustang as a league of its own. That could soon prove true, with the seventh generation of the famous American carriage.
The Detroit automaker on Wednesday announced a redesigned 2024 hardtop and convertible Mustang with two gas-powered engines. Meanwhile, the Dodge Challenger and Chevrolet Camaro – the car’s biggest rivals – are expected to go all-electric in the coming years.

Ford officials say redesigning the iconic vehicle without any kind of electrification is part of a “Mustang family” strategy that includes an all-electric lineup of vehicles. Mustang Mach-E crossover went on sale at the end of 2020.
“We know customers want the internal combustion engine and some of them want electric, and we offer both of those Mustangs,” said Jim Owens, Mustang marketing manager.

The exterior of the Mustang 2024 looks quite familiar to fans of this car. It’s an evolutionary change from the sixth-generation version, but with slightly more muscular features.
“We are adding a modern touch to the heritage-inspired design,” said Chris Walter, Ford Mustang Design Director.
The front and rear of the car have been redesigned, but the overall shape and dimensions of the car are similar to the current-generation Mustang, last redesigned in 2015.

Both the four-cylinder and the V-8 are updated from the current Mustang. Ford hasn’t released performance specs, but they’re likely to be better than current vehicles. V-8 GT models will be offered with both manual and automatic transmission.
The current 2.3-liter turbocharged, 4-cylinder engine produces 310 horsepower and 350 pound-feet of torque, while the Mustang GT’s 5.0-liter V-8 produces power. 450 horsepower and 420 pound-feet of torque. Top speed ranges from 121 mph to 180 mph, depending on the model.
The most obvious changes to the seventh-generation Mustang are in the interior: the most prominent are the 13.2-inch central touchscreen and the accompanying 12.4-inch driver information cluster. The screens can be customized by the owner.
The other two new additions include an available “Electronic Sliding Brake” for easier driving and a “Remote Turnaround” feature that allows owners to remotely turn the car’s engine with the key.
