Gemma Arterton, Niamh Algar Join Disney + Original UK Chiefs – The Hollywood Reporter
Gemma Arterton (The King’s Man, The norm of comfort), Kirby Howell-Baptiste (Cruella, New Year’s Eve Killing) and Niamh Algar (Calm down with the horse, Raised by wolves) has joined the main cast of Disney+’s upcoming UK original series CulpritsRecording has now started.
Kamel El Basha (Outrage), newcomers Tara Abboud, Kevin Vidal (Strays, Working mothers), Ned Dennehy (Peripherals, Good sign) and Eddie Izzard (Victoria and Abdul, Six minutes to midnight) will also star in the dark comic series about robberies, along with the already announced lead, Nathan Stewart-Jarrett (Generation, Candy man).
From acclaimed executive producer Stephen Garrett (Undoing, Night manager) and filmmaker J Blakeson (I care a lot, The Disappearance of Alice Creed), Culprits comes from Brit banner Character 7 and was announced last year as one of the first UK original series on Disney+ authorized under the Star brand.
The eight-part series follows the aftermath of a heist, as the crew have gone their separate ways but are being targeted one by one by a killer.
The series’ directors are Blakeson and Claire Oakley (Make up) who will direct five and three episodes, respectively.
Culprits operated by Garrett, created by Blakeson and produced by Morenike Williams (New Year’s Eve Killing), and is a product of Character 7, with Johanna Devereaux executive producing for Disney+.
Disney+ initially said it aimed to produce 50 original European series by 2024 but increased that number to 60 last year.
