This year, more so than in recent memory, there seem to be a lot of teams that stand out. It feels like the top 10 teams have avoided the mistakes they can often fall prey to. We’ve seen Tide escape against Texas A&M, Georgia pull off a head-to-head showdown against Mizzou, USC barely outscored by Oregon State, the OT Surviving Vols against Pitt and their own demons against back in Florida, Clemson held up Wake Forest, Ohio State lost half way to Notre Dame, Penn State had similar early season troubles against Purdue, and so on and so forth with these undefeated schools.
After this week, there will be at least three more perfect Pscreditor 5 team. 3 Alabama hosts 6 Tennessee, 5 Michigan hosts 10 Penn State, and 8 Oklahoma takes on 13 TCU. The other top 10 teams tested included USC No. 7 going to No. 20 Utah, and No. 5 Clemson taking a trip to Florida State. Aside from No. 1 Georgia (Vanderbilt), No. 2 Ohio State (goodbye) and No. 9 Ole Miss (Auburn), every team in the top 10 is tested.
The first college football playoff rankings are announced on November 1, and that may be because they take a few months to materialize. The selection committee wouldn’t look as lucky as AP voters if they were asked to come up with the top 25 without enough evidence, and it’s weeks like these that help.
So, let’s look at the CFP candidates from each Pcreditor 5 Conferences, and sort of surprisingly, have at least one legitimate candidate from each of them, maybe two in some cases, and three if you really squint.
