Georgia Grand Jury Recommends Indictments for Witnesses In Trump Election Case

A special purpose grand jury has asked an Atlanta-area prosecutor to seek indictments as part of her investigation into former President Donald Trump’s efforts to surreptitiously falsify voting results in Georgia to steal the 2020 election.

The heavily edited report does not say whether Trump himself should be indicted, but jurors want their local prosecutor to punish witnesses who lied about what happened. .

“The majority of the grand jury believes that perjury may have been perpetrated by one or more prior testifying witnesses. The grand jury recommends that the District Attorney seek appropriate indictments for such crimes upon compelling evidence,” the report said, which was only partially released Thursday morning.

Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis convened this unique grand jury last year as a preliminary step to uncovering how Trump and his Republican associates sought to sabotage the state election. The group does not have the power to prosecute anyone, but is tasked with creating a report that outlines the way forward for prosecutors.

The DA could choose to form a more traditional grand jury that would have the power to indict the former US president, his advisers lying to Georgia lawmakers and MAGA loyalists who have been linked banded together to become fake electors in a plot to prevent Congress from certifying President Joe Biden’s victory.
