Based on WSB-TV Channel 2Following interviews with Rockdale County School District officials, the unidentified student is likely to face criminal charges. The Rockdale County Sheriff’s Office released a statement saying it is “actively investigating this incident.”
After an argument on January 26, the student was taken to the Juvenile Detention Center. Meanwhile, the unnamed teacher is said to be recovering from a broken leg. The school district released a statement following the alleged teacher abuse incident.
“Rockdale County Public Schools is investigating an incident where a student allegedly assaulted a teacher during class today. RCPS does not tolerate violent behavior by students against any staff member. Students who harm other students or staff will be disciplined in accordance with our Code of Student Discipline and will be appropriately prosecuted by law enforcement.”
This is what happened during the war between students and teachers that went viral
It is not clear what caused the argument between the students and the teacher. However, in the two videos of the melee, the students seem to think the teacher was “talk about [her] mom.” Channel 2 spoke to a student who witnessed the fight, who said it was more shocking than terrifying.
“It’s not scary, it’s shocking,” the student said. “She’s a pretty good teacher, but the way she talks, she talks very aggressively,” the witness said. “The way she talks to the kids is not the right way to talk to them.”
Parents of students who witnessed also blamed the teacher, saying, “Teachers don’t take a class on how to deal with children.”
local store, Citizen Rockdale Newton, reported that the educator has been teaching for 27 years and currently teaches English language arts at Heritage High School. Additionally, the outlet claims the teacher taught the class to another teacher on the day of the attack.
The clip, which is less than a minute long, begins with the female student and the teacher standing face to face, the student swearing obscenities while the teacher tries to make a phone call.
“I don’t care if you’re an adult or not,” the teenager repeatedly shouted as he stood in front of the classroom. “You can’t talk to me like that, you idiot** b***h,” the teenager told the teacher.
From there, the interaction escalated when the teacher asked the teenager “get out [her] face to face,” and the teen responded by slamming the teacher’s phone on the ground. The teen pushed the teacher’s hands as she lifted them to create space between them.
At this point, the teacher walked towards the classroom door, seeking help from another teacher. The teen took the opportunity to try to kick the teacher out of the class, but the teacher intervened.
This caused the teenager to shove the teacher in the door, and the teacher responded by holding the teenager away from her. The teen then started swinging at the teacher’s head and face, and eventually, the two ended up on the hallway floor until the other educators separated them.
Another angle of the video captures the moment the teacher and student fell to the ground, presumably because the teacher broke her leg.
