German CDU/CSU and SPD tied in national election

BERLIN (Reuters) – Germany’s CDU/CSU conservatives and their Social Democrat rivals have been tied in Sunday’s nationwide election, an exit ballot confirmed, leaving open which ones will lead the subsequent authorities as Angela Merkel prepares to face down after 16 years in energy.
The CDU/CSU bloc received 25% of the vote, their weakest end in a post-war federal election and on a par with the centre-left Social Democrat (SPD), the infratest ballot for broadcaster ARD confirmed.
