Gladiator 2 has a November 2024 release date
Gladiator 2 now has a release date, as Paramount has put the sequel on November 22, 2024, which means it will premiere next year’s Thanksgiving weekend if that date is correct.
Gladiator was originally released in May 2000, so the sequel is coming more than 24 years later. However, it is not as long as the 36 years that fans have been waiting for Top Gun: Maverick.
Ridley Scott, who directed the first Gladiator, will return for the sequel. Paul Mescalwho starred in Aftersun and was nominated for an Oscar this year, is said to be joining Gladiator 2.
According to a report, Mescal will play Lucius, the son of Luciilla played by Connie Nielsen in the original film. Lucius, the grandson of Commodus (Joaquin Phoenix in the original) is now grown up and ready for his own adventure. Maximus, played by Russell Crowe in the first Gladiator, killed Commodus and saved Lucius before he died.
Plot details for Gladiator 2 are still in the wraps. What we do know, however, is that the script was written by David Scarpa (All the Money in the World, Man in the High Castle).
Gladiator of the Year 2000 was a huge commercial and critical success, earning 500 million dollars at the box office and received 12 Oscar nominations. It won five Oscars, including best picture.
