GM BrightDrop Zevo 600 sets single charge range record

With the commercial electric truck market rapidly becoming crowded, companies will be looking for anything to stand out. GM’s BrightDrop electric truck division has done just that with a new Guinness World Record for driving distance on a single charge for a commercial truck. A BrightDrop Zevo 600 (formerly known as EV600) made deliveries from New York City to Washington, DC, over a distance of nearly 260 miles.

Yes, it was indeed a delivery. The truck operated by FedEx shipped Full Circle cleaning products to MOM’s Organic Market. Though neither FedEx nor GM said how large the shipment was. And while this is just a publicity stunt, it’s still an impressive feat for the van, which has a range of about 250 miles.

This van is one of the cars that has was built and sent to FedEx teams. The delivery company also has a total of 2,500 vans booked. GM says it already has 25,000 pre-orders from multiple companies for the Zevo 600s.

Range is definitely one area where the BrightDrop Zevo 600 has an edge over the competition. Rivian’s highest range electric truck has a reported range of 201 milesand Ford E-Transit topped with 126 miles. However, the Zevo 600’s 2,200-pound payload capacity is similar to the payload range for Rivian models, while the E-Transit has features much larger capacity at 3,800 pounds for a full van and 4,290 pounds for a chassis-cabin model.

The electric truck space will get even more competitive right from the upcoming Ram ProMaster electric van. It is expected to go on sale next year. However, the specifications are not available for it.
