GM recalls select Tahoes, Yukons, Escalades for rear drive shaft problem
GM To be remember some of its large SUVs due to problems with the rear drive axle assembly that could eventually lead to transmission shaft failure.
The actual total number of vehicles involved in the recall is just 1,789 units, but it spans GM’s entire full-size vehicle lineup for 2021. GM has found the issue back from some drive shaft assemblies whose bearings were not properly heat treated. If they’re not properly heat-treated, GM says the balls can deform over time, causing noise and vibration. Continue driving in this condition and GM says the affected joint in the driveshaft assembly may contract, causing loss of drive force. However, the problem won’t appear immediately, as GM says there will be a gradual increase in noise and vibration before complete failure.
