NEW DELHI: In a sign of the growing rift, Samajwadi Party (SP) on Saturday sent a letter to its allies, the head of the Pragatisheel Samajwadi Party (PSP-L) Shivpal Singh Yadav and Suheldev Bharatiya Samaj Party (SBSP) chairperson OP Rajbharsay they are “free to go wherever you feel more respected”.

The development comes days after Rajbhar’s party broke ranks with SP and voted for NDADroupadi’s presidential candidate Murmu. The letters also come a day after the UP government led by Yogi Adityanath granted Rajbhar class Y security.

While SP suggests that additional security is a cause of the growing closeness between Rajbhar and BJPSBSP management describes this as the result of a longstanding need for SP support.

Recently Rajbhar also met Adityanath during MLAs party. SBSP has six MLAs in the UP Assembly and played a key role in the Akhilesh-Yadav outfit’s vastly improved track record in eastern UP.

After supporting Murmu, the SBSP director stated that his alliance with SP persists to this day. “The support I extended to the NDA is only for the presidential election,” he said, adding ” Abhi toh gathbandhan two. Rahenge jab tak woh rakhenge (The alliance is still intact. We will keep it as long as they keep us.) ”
