Gold Coast electric fast charger blocked by faster ICE cars

Two drivers took part in perhaps the flashiest ICE-ing performance ever last week.

Photos shared on Plugshare The page for the Runaway Bay Tesla Supercharger on the Gold Coast reveals sockets plugged in by a few weird people.

ONE McLaren 765LT and a Lamborghini Aventador SVJthe latter wears a red P-plate, seen in the charging bays.

Neither mid-engine supercar needs an EV charger.

The user who shared the images, who goes by the name Tessi, said they spoke to the supercar owner and “their excuse was that they thought the compartments were shared”.

The Runaway Bay Supercharger location only opened in May and there doesn’t seem to be any signage that says ICE cars can’t be parked there.

A follow-up post on Plugshare The page from today says five of the charging bays have been filled by cars powered by internal combustion engines. It is not clear whether these vehicles are of the same caliber.

It is illegal to park in an EV charging bay without charging the vehicle, with the Queensland Government offering a $2875 fine for the offence as early as 2022.

When the fines were introduced in January 2022, Minister for Roads and Transport Mark Bailey said: “You can’t leave your car parked at a gas station, so why should the EV charging bays be different? Go?”

While that fine may be pocket money for those who own a McLaren or Lamborghini, we think even these owners can think of something more fun to spend 2875 on. dollars.

THAN: Is it legal to park a car at an electric vehicle charging station without charging it?
