Good Night Oppy Wins Top Prize at Critics’ Choice Documentary Awards – The Hollywood Reporter

Amazon Studios and Amblin Entertainment’s Good night named best documentary at the seventh annual Critics’ Choice Documentary Awards, presented Sunday night at the Edison Ballroom in Manhattan.

Overall, Good night won a total of five awards the night, including best director for Ryan White.

For the first time, the Critics’ Choice Association also chose to recognize the top three documentaries in the documentary category. While Good night was the winner of the gold award, the silver prize went to the flame of lovewhile bronze went to navy.

Actor and stand-up comedian Wyatt Cenac (Daily Show with Jon Stewart) was the host of the event, where documentary filmmaker Barbara Kopple (Harlan County USA, Upcoming melon Arena of valor) has received the Pennebaker Award (formerly known as the Critics’ Choice Lifetime Achievement Award) and Dawn Porter (John Lewis: Good Trouble, The Way I See It) was honored with the Critics Choice Impact Award.

The award honors “the year’s best achievements in documentaries released in theaters, on TV, and on major digital platforms, as determined by voting of qualified CCA members .” The ceremony was broadcast live for the first time.

Go to the show, the flame of love led with seven nominations, followed by Good night with six. In another first, awards for best ongoing documentary and best limited documentary were presented at the Critics’ Choice Documentary Awards (those awards had previously been awarded). awarded at the Critics’ Choice Reality Television Awards).
