Goodbye Baby! Couple abandoning newborn baby at airport check-in counter

After arriving at the airport without a ticket for their child, an unidentified couple left the infant at the check-in desk.

Parents delayed flight from Tel Aviv to Brussels, leaving child at check-in

The incident happened on a January 31 flight from Ben Gurion International Airport in Israel to Brussels, Belgium.

A Ryanair spokesperson addressed the matter in a statement sent to CNNnote that the couple “moves to security [after] leaving the infant at check-in.”

She also notes that a baby without a ticket will reportedly cost around $27 for a one-way flight (if the baby is sitting on the parent’s lap). In fact, when purchasing tickets, it was noted that “infants may be included in the flight reservation during the online booking process”, although this appears to have been overlooked by the couple.

“These passengers traveling from Tel Aviv to Brussels showed up at check-in without a reservation for their infant. They then proceed with security to leave the infant at check-in.

She went on to share that airport security was eventually contacted, who went on to “rescue the passengers”. The incident was then referred to the local police station.

“The check-in officer at Ben Gurion Airport contacted Airport Security who came to pick up these passengers and this is now a matter for the local police.”

Israeli authorities say ‘No need for further investigation’

While talking to CNN, Israel’s Airport Authority shared more details about the incident, noting that parents were in a hurry to “get to the boarding gate for the flight”. In an attempt to catch a flight to Belgium, the couple rushed “out of the infant seat and ran towards the security check area”.

“A couple and an infant with Belgian passports boarded a flight at Terminal 1 without a ticket for the baby. The couple was also late for their flight when the check-in counter for the flight was closed. The couple got out of the infant seat with the baby and ran towards the security check in Terminal 1 to try to get to the boarding gate for the flight.”

Authorities also addressed the matter, noting that there was “no further investigation”, as the matter was resolved by the time police arrived.

“The baby has been with the parents and there is no further investigation.”

There are no further updates on the matter and it seems the family in question is moving ahead and ignoring the past issue.
