Google I/O 2022: Pixel Watch with rounded design is now official, Pixel Buds Pro launched at the same time


The Google Pixel Watch made its debut during the I/O 2022 consumer keynote on Wednesday as the company’s first smartwatch – a long time after being part of the… rumor. The new product has a rounded dome design, unlike the Apple Watch which has a rectangular screen, with rounded edges. The Pixel Watch also comes in separate color options and a list of fitness tracking features. In addition to the Pixel Watch, Google announced the Pixel Buds Pro as its latest truly wireless stereo (TWS) headphones – going up against Apple’s AirPods Pro and Samsung’s Galaxy Buds Pro.

Google Pixel Watch Price is yet to be revealed. However, Google said at the keynote that the smartwatch will be available in the US starting this fall.

Google has integrated more Fitbit in Pixel Watch to deliver an “industry-leading health and fitness experience” right from the start. Google says that the watch offers continuous heart rate and sleep monitoring. Users can also view their active zone minutes during workouts and track their stats and progress against various fitness goals.

The Pixel Watch also works with the Find My Device app to help users locate their lost Pixel phone, headset, or any other supported device on a map available on their wrist.

Google Pixel Buds Pro comes with active noise cancellation (ANC), which uses new silent stamping technology that is claimed to help compensate for sound leaks and maximize the amount of noise that has been removed. . This makes the new earbuds a significant upgrade over the existing Pixel Buds and Pixel Buds A-Series since both don’t have ANC support. Pixel Buds Pro also includes a transparency mode that helps users hear ambient sounds. Later this year, Google also promised to update Pixel Buds Pro with spatial audio support to compete with Apple AirPods Pro.

In detail ANC, Google says the earbuds carry a beam-forming microphone that uses a machine-learning-trained noise cancellation algorithm to block out wind flow and other ambient noise. The headphones are also equipped with a custom audio chip that is said to be power efficient to help extend the listening time up to 11 hours or seven hours with ANC enabled.

Similar to the existing Pixel Buds and other Pixel devices, Pixel Buds Pro comes with a hands-free Google Assistant experience. You can use this experience to translate into 40 languages, or ask Assistant to find walking directions without requiring your phone.

Google has included the Pixel Buds Pro headphones with a charging case with USB Type-C for wired charging as well as Qi wireless charging. The buds also include multipoint connection support to allow users to connect them to “compatible phones, tablets, laptops and TVs” simultaneously and switch between audio streams on the transfer. Users can also find their Pixel Buds Pro using Find My Device in case they lose their headphones.

In terms of connectivity, the Pixel Buds Pro has Bluetooth v5.0. The headset can also be paired with any Bluetooth v4.0+ device, including Android and iOS devices as well as tablets and laptops.

The included carrying case has an IPX2 splash-proof design, while the headphones are IPX4 sweat-resistant. The headset also includes a capacitive touch sensor to support tap and swipe gestures. The charging case supports sFast Charge to deliver up to an hour of listening time with five minutes of charging. It also delivers up to 31 hours of total listening time (without ANC).
