Google has begun rolling out the May 2022 update to its Pixel phones to fix weak notification vibrations, specifically for the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro. The weak notification vibration issue surfaced earlier this year and was reported by a large number of users on both the latest Pixel phones. The May 2022 software update also fixes screen and launcher issues for all Pixel phones starting with Pixel 3a through Pixel 6 Pro.
As emphasize In the changelog available on the Community tab post, the May 2022 Pixel software update includes improvements to haptic feedback to enhance vibration alerts, especially on Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro. These improvements are basically intended to address user complaints regarding weaker vibrations appearing on platforms including Google’s. support forum and Reddit after the March software update.
Users complained at the time that after the March update, they started missing text messages and calls due to weaker vibrations than they received before.
The March update, however, means to provide features include Live Caption and Night Sight support for Snapchat. It also includes fixes, including fixes for some Wi-Fi connectivity issues on the Pixel 6 series.
This isn’t the first time when an update has caused problems for Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro users. Last year, December update caused dropped calls on both Pixel 6 models. Google had to pause update it to avoid its mass impact.
The May 2022 update also fixes an issue that caused the display on Pixel phones to work without user interaction. It also solves an issue that leads to a launcher crash after a device restart. Both of these fixes apply to all eligible Pixel phones, namely Pixel 3a, Pixel 3a XL, Pixel 4, Pixel 4 XL, Pixel 4a, Pixel 4a (5G), Pixel 5, Pixel 5a (5G)Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro.
May 2022 update for Pixel phones running Android 12 will continue to roll out next week in phases. You can check its appearance on your Pixel device by going to Setting > System > System update. Also you can get factory pictures or OTA images of the update package from the Android Developer portal if you are aware of the risks involved in manually installing new software versions.
