Governor Lee Suggests Officers Join THP Because There’s No COVID Mission
NASHVILLE – Tennessee Governor Bill Lee released a videotapes Wednesday try to convince the officers join the Tennessee Highway Patrol because it doesn’t have any coronavirus related missions.
In the 71-second video released to YouTube, Lee said the Tennessee Highway Patrol “won’t come between you and your doctor”. THP added that THP will offer to cover all travel expenses for any officer who leaves another state to join his force.
In the first day of this month, Lee signed a new state law ban vaccine regulations and cut back when possible to enact mask regulations.
Lee specifically mentioned New York City and Los Angeles, both cities where police officers and sheriffs are or will be required to be vaccinated against COVID-19.
The New York City authorization goes into effect on November 1, with Police Commissioner Dermot Shea announced Of the department’s 35,000 employees, 34 have been laid off due to unvaccinated conditions.
COVID-19 was the most frequent cause of death for officers in 2020 and by far in 2021, According to Officer Down’s Memorial Page, which tracks the deaths of law enforcement officers around the country.
In 2021, 422 officers died, of which 277 died from COVID-19. Tennessee has lost 18 officers this year and 13 officers to COVID-19.
