The animal in distress was discovered on Pleasant Street early Thursday morning while walking in a circle, trying to shake a crate off its head.
Officers threw a disposable blanket over the animal to hold it – and to block any low-fragrance sprays – while removing the cup.
“The skunk quickly ran across the street and back into the woods to reunite with his family. Amazingly, the skunk never sprayed in the direction of the officer as it fled,” police wrote.
