Grand National Meeting: Rain forecast encourages L’Homme Presse team to head to Aintree for Mildmay Novices’ Chase | Racing news

Cheltenham Festival hero L’Homme Presse’s connection is kicking off the idea of an Aintree outing if rain is forecast in Liverpool next week.

So far, gelding has gone undefeated over the fence in five runs, a campaign that includes Scilly Isles Novices’ 21-race success and a decisive win in the Brown Mentor competition at the Cheltenham Festival.

Co-owner Andy Edwards has previously stated that running in the three-mile single-track Mildmay Novices’ race is not entirely ruled out after gelding’s heroic Cheltenham battle, but his participation will depend on wet weather before the Aintree meeting.

Those conditions could now materialize as rain is forecast on Merseyside this week and so the chances of L’Homme Presse’s queue on Friday increase.

“With rain forecast coming and assurances from Aintree that this will be very safe ground, we’re keen to run him on a new three-mile chase on Friday,” Edwards said.

“He wants to run and is ready to run and we really want him there.”
