Grapevine-Colleyville ISD Parents Protest Teacher Resignation Over Offensive Comments About Conservative Christians – CBS Dallas/Fort Worth
GRAPEVINE, Texas (CBSDFW.COM) – Parents in Grapevine-Colleyville ISD get first opportunity to speak with school board since A teacher resigned last week after being filmed making offensive comments.
Some parents are concerned that the comment suggesting conservative Catholics should take the death of COVID-19 has some parents concerned that it is an example of a broader problem in the district. .
It all started with a casual, private conversation between teachers in the hallways of a school.
But it quickly became a very public discussion about whether the district’s mandate to treat all people equally extends to Christian conservatives.
It was barely audible on someone’s recording inside Colleyville Middle School.
But it is clear that the teacher who said so would be in big trouble before making the decision to resign.
On Monday night, February 28, parents identified as Christian conservatives complained to the Grapevine-Colleyville ISD school board that they did not believe it was the feelings of just one teacher in the district. .
“I am deeply saddened by the onslaught of conservative Christians in this community,” said one parent on the podium. “It’s just proof of what parents have felt so far.”
“I can’t help asking myself why would the other teacher say something that would be the first time the teacher said this sentence? If not, maybe it would explain why there is a camera there willing to record their conversation,” another said.
In a statement released last week, the district called the former teacher’s remarks indefensible.
But some parents have come forward in defense of the former teacher, including one parent who told the council it was unfair to hold them accountable for something they thought they said privately.
“Has anyone ever stopped to think why she said what she said? If you listen for a moment, I’ll tell you what I heard. I sound disappointed. I sound exhausted. And she’s not alone. All of our teachers have been pushed past the breaking point,” another said.
One parent expressed concern about the safety of a former teacher based on what was posted on social media.
The administration did not respond to any public comment.
