There are moments of celebrity style that fit perfectly, and then there are moments that really stick with you, moments you try your best to recreate at home. In ‘Great outfits in fashion history, ‘Fashion editors are revisiting their all-time favorite lewks.
A holiday party dress is like a full sundae, with ruffles and glittery embellishments acting as a sweet overlay. There is a dress-like aspect to wearing it, because most of us have no reason to dress up as a regular festive item. I’m not the biggest fan of picking something orderly and sparkly from my wardrobe, but if I were to pick something puzzling, it would be Chanel high fashion dress it up Carey Mulligan wore to the screening of “Suffragette” at the BFI London Film Festival in 2015.
This lilac look, from the brand’s fall 2015 couture collection, has a lot going on, from oversized, shaggy sleeves to ornate details. The quality is in the busyness of the dress making it a work of art rather than an overstuffed, messy piece of clothing. With so many intricate details to show off, the Mulligan is lightly fitted, wears statement diamond studs, and has no neck or wrist jewelry.
Aside from her elegant knee-length haute couture amount, Mulligan’s professionally curled and polished hair also deserves a mention, especially the way it’s captured in the image above, as if Her lob has magical powers, blowing like the wind. And while we couldn’t recreate her hair, we can provide some similar dresses you might want to wear to your next holiday party. Buy them all in the gallery below.
