Great Pacific Garbage Patch becomes a giant ‘floating plastic habitat’
A huge pile of trash in the Pacific Ocean is now “a giant floating plastic habitat” for marine animals to cling to its plastic debris, researchers have discovered.
The coastal flora and fauna that are brought to sea on plastic debris don’t just exist over an area of the ocean known as the Great Pacific Garbage Patch. They’re building communities and growing, according to research recently published in Nature Communications.
