Greg Norman uninvited from 150th British Open celebration
The festivities ahead of next week’s 150th British Open will be held without the former two-time champion uninvited to the event.
On Saturday, the Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St. Nor was Norman invited to the Champions’ Dinner at St. Andrews.
The R&A released a statement saying the organization wanted the focus of the week to be golf and feared that Norman’s attendance would distract.
“The 150th Open is a hugely important milestone for golf and we want to ensure that the focus remains on celebrating the Championship and its legacy,” the statement said. “Unfortunately, we don’t believe that will happen if Greg attends. We hope that when circumstances permit, Greg will be able to attend again in the future. “
