Haas team principal Guenther Steiner believes a more relaxed approach has helped Mick Schumacher turn his form around, leading to successive shots.
Schumacher was on the upswing after earning the first point of his career with an eighth place finish at Silverstone, while in Styria he scored two points again as Haas recorded his best weekend. theirs since Austria 2018.
Speaking on Any Monday is motivated“I couldn’t find anything to say, this is what happened, but he performed a lot better in Canada,” Steiner said.
“Obviously, qualifying there was good but the race wasn’t so good because he’s retired, but in Canada he seems to be a lot more relaxed about everything and that comes from creating less pressure. for myself that helped achieve these results.
“I’m 100% sure of this. I’ve seen a change in Canada where he seems to be more relaxed about things but hopefully now with scoring twice in a row and finishing sixth gives We have more points because we desperately need them to get to Friday.”
Steiner also revealed what team dynamics are like backstage in Team Haas following Schumacher’s disappointments after the sprint.
He showed strong pace throughout the 23-round encounter at the Red Bull Ring, where he held off Lewis Hamilton, working alongside teammate Kevin Magnussen up front to stay on his DRS and help hold on to the seven-time world champion.
But after intense pressure, Schumacher dropped the DRS and eventually lost his place to Hamilton, past the ninth line, a place out of points.
“You know racecar drivers, they’re all the same,” says Steiner. “They always want to be in front of their teammates. I always say that you are all equal and the team decides what we will do because the points are the team’s.
“We need more points for the team to hope to make it to sixth, or fight at least to sixth. If we waste our chance because you guys are fighting, that’s not good for the team and the only interest that’s going to happen. They have been working for the team.”
Schumacher was voted Driver of the Day and spoke to Sky Sports F1 After his impressive finish, the German said: “I think sometimes a little bit of anger helps unlock the beast.
“I think we’ve been very consistent with what we have as a package and I don’t think we’ve necessarily taken a big step forward but I think this track could be right for our car. . We will continue to be strong.”
