Guillermo del Toro Honored by Visual Effects Association – The Hollywood Reporter

Guillermo del Toro will receive the Visual Effects Association Award for Creative Excellence during the 20th VES Awards, which also marks the Association’s 25th anniversary.

The awards will be presented on March 8 at the Beverly Hilton Hotel to recognize individuals who have contributed to the visual effects industry. VES Board President Lisa Cooke said: “Guillermo is a fiercely creative storyteller who pushes the boundaries of filmmaking. “An exemplary talent, he has continuously improved not only the technical aspects, the visual effects but also the emotions. Guillermo is an incredible creative force and a defining voice in our global community, and his work is a rich source of inspiration for future generations of artists and innovators. . ”

Del Toro received the Academy Award for Best Director and Best Picture for Shape of water, also won an Oscar for production design and score. His follow-up, Nightmare Alleyreceived four Academy Award nominations including best picture.

His upcoming projects include a stop-motion adaptation of Pinocchio and Netflix anthology series Guillermo del Toro . Municipal Cabinet.

He has directed films including Pan’s Labyrinth, Hellboy, Hellboy II: The Golden Army and Pacific rim. As a producer, the credits include Bi Nice, Kung Fu Panda 2 and Push in Boots. Del Toro studied makeup effects with artist Dick Smith and then spent 10 years as a special effects makeup designer and founded his own company, Necropia. He is also the co-founder of the Guadalajara International Film Festival.
