Gunna’s legal team files a new petition for his release from prison
Roomies, Gunna’s attorney is working overtime to get him released. They asked a neighboring county in Georgia, the actual location of the rapper’s prison, to order his release. According to Billboard, his attorneys are now trying their luck with Henry County, which is next to Fulton County, where he was jailed. On Tuesday, his lawyers filed a request for a writ of habeas corpus, a constitutional procedure that allows inmates to challenge their imprisonment.
In the petition, they argued that Fulton County prosecutors presented little or no evidence to support his stay behind bars. If you recall, the rapper “Banking on Me”, was born Sergio Kitchens, had a motion for the bond is rejected twice. In a statement via XXL, Gunna’s co-lead adviser, Steve Sadow, said, “Sergio should be free of the relationship. We believe the judge was wrong in not asking the prosecution to present evidence at the bond hearings. We tried to ask an appellate court to review that decision, but the judge refused to let us do that.” It continued, “Habeas lawsuits are designed to secure a defendant’s release from custody. We hope that another judge will interpret the law correctly and grant Gunna bail. “
Reports show that the lawsuit, filed by attorneys Steven H. Sadow, Donald F. Samuel, John A. Garland and Kristen W. Novay, requested a hearing within eight days of filing. With news of the lawsuit, Atlantans received renewed support from Kim Kardashian. Soon after the news was announced, she wrote “Free Gunna” on Instagram and Twitter.
