HAVE YOU WATCH THIS? Kitten in Harrison, Ark., Born with Two Heads

HARRISON, Ark. (KY3) – A pet owner in Harrison has a cat that just gave birth to kittens, one of which was born with two heads.

Ariel Contreras, the kitten’s owner, said: ‘I was washing clothes, I saw my cat meowing, then suddenly babies started coming out, and I started yelling at my husband. me,” said Ariel Contreras, the kitten’s owner. “This is the second one, so whenever he comes out, my husband says, ‘honey, it has two ends,’ and I went, ‘no way! “

Harvey is named after the fictional villain in the Batman series, a fitting name since he has two distinct faces. The Janus cat is a rare genetic mutation caused by overproduction of protein while in the womb.

“It has one of everything except the extra skull,” said Dr Tim Addis, veterinarian of Alley Cat Animal Rescue. “The ability to make it is as good as its siblings if you bottle-feed it.”

Dr Addis has more than 60 years of experience working with animals and says he has never seen such a rare mutation.

“Well, they seem to be working together, you can feed either mouth, and it will get nutrients through either mouth. It’s really different,” he said.

And different is true. The Janus cat is extremely rare, with only a handful of known cases in modern times.

“It’s actually bigger than the others, and it’s working really well. Conteras said.

Although there is little data, Janus cats have historically had low survival rates. Many people cannot live past the first 12 hours. But Harvey may have defied everything, being born on Wednesday and showing all the signs of a healthy newborn kitten.

“There’s one that’s been 12 years old, and one that’s been 15 years old, so I really pray this one can last that long, and we’ll do whatever it takes,” Contreras said.

Dr Addis said: “Well, the little kitten has a chance. “What the odds are, I don’t know. They are very difficult to raise. But, it will work if God willing. “
