When preparing back to their role Nearly 20 years after the prequel trilogy, both Ewan McGregor and Hayden Christensen are beginning to perfect their characters. In an interview with Weekly entertainmentMcGregor said he went through all nine major Star Wars movies in preparation, while Christensen went even further, following Anakin’s lengthy adventures in both the Clone Wars and Rebels animated shows.
“I’ve seen [the Star Wars films] from start to finish,” McGregor told EW. All nine movies. Just to go back to that world. “Actor Obi-Wan added that this is the first time he’s seen prequels since they first came out.” It’s interesting to watch our movies because I haven’t seen them since they came out, not at all. So it’s great to watch and fun to watch them and enjoy them without all the background noise when they come out.
Christensen has also reviewed the films, but revealed that he’s gone even deeper into the Star Wars rulebook, through the Clone Wars and Rebels animated shows.
“That was exciting,” Christensen explains. “They did a lot of things with these characters on those shows. And they explored more of the relationship. There were interesting things there to learn. It was fun to go back and immerse yourself. into this world that continues to grow and become larger and larger.”
The Clone Wars animated series spanned seven seasons, with several episodes following Anakin’s feat as a Jedi between Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith. Clone Wars also provided Anakin with a padawan named Ahsoka, who appeared in The Mandalorian and will have her own spin-off on Disney Plus. Rebels follows a new cast of characters fighting against the Empire between Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope, and features Darth Vader as a formidable villain.
Christensen has said that his version of Vader in the Obi-Wan . series will become “very powerful”, though it’s not yet clear how much of a role he will play in the series. Christensen is also subscribed to Ahsoka seriesgiving the actor more reason to research the series where Anakin used to be padawan was introduced.
