HBO refreshes ‘House of the Dragon’ for season 2
HBO’s “House of the Dragon” hasn’t aired a second episode yet, but that hasn’t stopped the network green it for a second season.
The first episode of the “Game of Thrones” prequel series – set 170 years before the events of the original show – set the HBO record for showings of a new show, with nearly 10 million viewers watching. Over the past week, HBO reported that early show viewership has grown to more than 20 million.
Francesca Orsi, executive vice president of HBO Programming, said: “We can’t help but be proud of what the entire ‘House of the Dragon’ team has achieved with season 1. “The cast and crew are incredible. Our regulars went through a great test and exceeded all expectations, delivering what has become a must-see TV show… We couldn’t be more delighted to continue to liven up the story. epic tale of House Targaryen with part 2.”
“House of the Dragon” chronicles the civil war that led to the downfall of House Targaryen, the ancestor of Daenerys Targaryen, a fan favorite of Emilia Clarke. The first season will last 10 episodes.
Season two of “House of the Dragon” may just be the prelude to “Game of Thrones” content coming to HBO in the future. The network features a series of Jon Snow sequels in the works and author George RR Martin said in interviews that there are more than half a dozen projects in various stages of development.
