‘He can go on like this’ – Manuel Akanji makes bold prediction about Erling Haaland after epic Champions League games for Manchester City

City of Manchester defender Manuel Akanji believes Cityzens . team-mates Erling Haaland could continue to score at the rate he currently finds the back of the net.

Manchester City played their UEFA Champions League group stage second match against Borussia Dortmund on Wednesday (September 14). Despite having to dig deep, they still managed to win.

Jude Bellingham put the Bundesliga club ahead in the 56th minute of the game at the Etihad Stadium. It looked like the visitors would go home with at least one point, but John Stones equalized for Cityzens in the 80th minute.

Pep Guardiola’s side took just four more minutes to take the lead thanks to Haaland’s goal. The Norwegian did what he does best, finishing Joao Cancelo’s excellent pass and finding the net again.

The goal helped Manchester City beat Dortmund 2-1 and bring Haaland’s total goals to 13 in all competitions. Fans, pundits, players and even managers have been impressed with the striker’s scoring rate.

AkanjiHowever, he insists that he is not surprised by the 22-year-old’s ability to score easily. The defender, who shares a dressing room with the striker at Dortmund, also assisted him in maintaining his momentum throughout the season. He was quoted saying by Manchester Evening News:

“I’m not surprised. I think he can go on like this. He just needs to work hard, bow his head and work every day. At this point, I think he can score any kind of score. Which goal?”

“I’m no longer surprised at what he can do. What a cross from Joao [Cancelo] and he’s obviously there where he needs to be and that’s a great goal. “

Akanji and Haaland shared a dressing room for two and a half years at Dortmund. They played a total of 67 matches together for the top German club.

Haaland proved a bargain for Manchester City

Manchester City spent £51m on Haaland from Dortmund in the summer. They are also said to have set aside a substantial amount for agency fees and other bonuses.

However, the Norway international proved to be a bargain for Cityzens. He has scored 13 goals and provided an assist from nine appearances in all competitions to date.

With the 22-year-old leading the way, Guardiola’s men are currently second in the Premier League and top of the Champions League table.
