DEHRADUN: What Char Dham yatra saw the deaths of 16 pilgrims within six days of the operation starting on May 3.
The majority of deaths are caused by heart related problems faced with people going to temples located at altitudes between 10,000 ft and 12,000 ft.

Reacting to the alarming death toll, Uttarakhand Health Minister Dhan Singh Rawat told TOI, “We have established the best possible medical facilities on all four dhams. We will soon. require pilgrims to bring health certificates.”
