Here’s Chrysler’s vision for your future car cabin TechCrunch

A year ago at CES in Las Vegas, Stellantis showed the world what a Chrysler EV could look like — a transformation that will happen in 2028 when it becomes a fully electric brand.

Now, we’re taking a look at the company’s vision for the car cabin of the future. Final result? Chrysler, the 97-year-old brand of global automaker Stellantis, wants its in-car technology to make “real life” easier.

The brand is showing off its vision at CES 2023 through Chrysler Synthesis, a two-seat demonstration of in-car technology and how drivers and passengers can use it. As part of the demonstration, the company created a typical day in this futuristic car life that includes a virtual personal assistant that uses biometric recognition, autonomous driving that allows the driver to actually video calls as well as entertainment and wellness experiences such as mediation, games, and karaoke. There’s even a feature that allows customers to create and synthesize their own music

While this may be a design exercise aimed at engaging consumers and shareholders, core technology is a real part of Stellantis’ strategy. Stellantis says they will invest more 33.7 billion USD by 2025 into software and electrification. The ultimate goal is to have 34 million connected cars on the road by 2030 that Stellantis can generate revenue for years after they are sold to consumers.

To achieve that lofty goal, Stellantis is developing three components that will be incorporated into future products, starting with the underlying electrical and software architecture called STLA Brain. This basic system integrated with the cloud connects the electronic controls in the vehicle to the central high-performance computer of the vehicle via a high-speed data bus. It will allow the company to upgrade the software for “over-the-air” or wireless vehicles.

In addition to this “brain”, Stellantis will add its “SmartCockpit”, a platform built in partnership with Foxconn that will provide driver applications such as navigation, voice assistance, merchant marketplace. e-commerce and payment services. A third autonomous driving platform called “AutoDrive,” developed in conjunction with BMW, will complete the automaker’s software plan.

All three of these platforms will be in new Stellantis vehicles in 2024.

Visitors to CES 2023 can see the “brain”, “smart cockpit” and “autopilot” in action through the Chrysler Synthesis concept, which includes a 37.2 sculpted black-glass infotainment screen inches for both people sitting in the front row. The two-seat cockpit, inspired by last year’s Chrysler Airflow Concept, represents future design direction of the brand, equipped with sustainable materials. Chrome is not allowed.

However, the real commodity on display in the Chrysler Synthesis is the software.

The software in the Chrysler Synthesis — and theoretically, future Chrysler vehicles — includes a virtual personal assistant, the ability to learn owner behaviors and preferences, and software updates. wireless regularly to deliver fresh and new content.

The assistant is designed to make everyday life easier such as installing updates and synchronizing with calendars for planning and routing, enabling multi-tasking while driving autonomously, offers parking and charging options, supports e-commerce services, connects to devices and smart homes. (It should be noted that Tesla cars, new Mercedes models with the MBUX infotainment system and others have some of these ‘smart’ features.)

Chrysler also envisions a more autonomous driving future. Chrysler Synthesis demonstrates so-called Level 3 autonomous driving that allows the driver to put his hands on the wheel and keep his eyes off the road.
