“Now, the goal will be to keep Kyle safe as he turns into an 18-year-old going to college to become a nurse,” Hancock told CNN affiliate WBBM. “Those are his plans going forward.”

Rittenhouse’s attorney Mark Richards said his client had a “huge sense of relief” and wanted to get on with his life. He added that his client expects no events surrounding the August 25, 2020 shooting to occur.

Richards said Rittenhouse, who has 24-hour security, was on his way home and did not expect to continue living in the area.

Asked about the call to protest after today’s ruling, Hancock said, “Family calls for calm. Call for calm. I mean, this is not an injustice.”

“What I want to say is, this is a pivotal point, I think, for the country to look at how things have been handled. Things have gone wrong with regards to who Kyle is and why he’s there. It’s never been about politics. It’s not about race. This is about a young man who went on the run and felt as if his life was in danger and defended himself. ,” he added.
