“He’s On Drugs” “The Man Has No Ball”

Chelsea Fans may or may not be surprised to see Graham Potter playing with a back four, as opposed to the three man defense the club worked with under Thomas Tuchel. However, they are certainly angry about the English coach’s decision to place Cesar Azpilicueta at centre-back alongside Thiago Silva.

Chelsea strengthened their defense during the transfer window, with former coach Tuchel bringing in Kalidou Koulibaly and Wesley Fofana. However, Potter has decided not to include either centre-back in the starting line-up for their Champions League clash with RB Salzburg.

The decision angered the Stamford Bridge faithful, who took to Twitter to criticize the manager. Here is a selection of tweets from disgruntled support:

Azpi at CB, we’re over 💀 Average age of that CB partnership is 60 dfkm, why are we still starting Azpi ANYWHERE in 2022 ffs

Thiago Silva and Azpi CB team up – he’s addicted to drugs

The man didn’t have the ball… Cant bench Azpi in a must win game.. can’t go dey already

azpi as a cb in the back4? potter is cooking

@UTD__J Meh tbf just wants to win it’s his first line-up so not his last azpi is over but it makes sense for him to play his captain in the first game

Graham Potter will hope that his decision to bring in Cesar Azpilicueta is vindicated and the team returns victorious. Both centre-backs are in their 30s, Azpilicueta is now 33 and Thiago Silva is about to turn 38.

Chelsea owner Todd Boehly mistakenly claims the Premier League duo from the academy

The Blues owner Todd Boehly has hit the headlines after sacking Champions League winning coach Thomas Tuchel following last week’s loss to Dinamo Zagreb. He was later fired after speaking at the SALT forum (via Metro), where he said Mohamed Salah and Kevin De Bruyne were from the club’s Cobham academy.

However, this is far from the case. The Liverpool forward spent his entire youth career in Egypt, before turning professional with Al Mokawloon.

From there, the striker moved to Basel, where he spent two years before joining the Blues for a £12m upfront fee. Salah eventually left Chelsea for Roma, before returning to the Premier League in 2017 where he reached new heights with Liverpool.

Manchester City midfielder De Bruyne also did not graduate from Cobham, instead playing his youth career in his native Belgium with Genk. After graduating from the first team successfully and playing nearly 100 games for the team, the midfielder moved to Chelsea in 2012 for just £ 6.7 million.

After two years, De Bruyne moved to Wolfsburg before returning to the Premier League and joining Man City.
