‘He’s the role model I grew up following’ – Manchester United talent Anthony Elanga calls Arsenal hero his idol

Manchester United Striker Anthony Elanga chose Arsenal legend Thierry Henry is his all-time favorite soccer player, saying he idolized the French player during his formative years.

The Swedish left winger has announced himself to the world under caretaker manager Ralf Rangnick, emerging as an integral member of the team. He has featured in 27 games for the Reds across all competitions during the 2021-22 season, scoring three goals and two assists.

The academy graduate will be looking to make headlines under Erik ten Hag this season. Recently he sat down with Official United media agency to participate in the Q&A session.

A fan (James) asked Elanga to name his all-time favorite footballer and the youngster wasn’t afraid to utter Arsenal’s iconic name Henry and said:

“For me, my all-time favorite football player is Thierry Henry. In my opinion. He’s one of the players I grew up watching. All Time? Well, for me, it’s Thierry Henry. He was the role model I grew up following.”

He was then asked to name his favorite Manchester United player. Front answer:

“Have a lot of. I can’t choose just one, but if I had to, Sir Bobby Charlton. But there are so many, I can’t just pick one.”

Manchester United have had a hard time keeping Arsenal legend Thierry Henry quiet

Hailed as one of the greatest players of all time, Henry has forged an inimitable legacy at Arsenal.

The former France international has scored 228 goals and provided 103 assists in 376 appearances for the club across competitions (nine seasons). Henry won two Premier League titles, three FA Cups and two FA Community Shields during his time with the north London club.

The 1998 World Cup winner was one of the few defenders in the world, and Manchester United was no exception. Henry didn’t win many games against the Old Trafford team (6 of 20) but he did score quite a few goals.

The former Barcelona player scored 9 goals and provided 4 assists against the Red Devils while at Arsenal.

United are Henry’s sixth favorite team, behind Middlesbrough (13 goals), Aston Villa (12 goals), Leeds United (12 goals), Charlton Athletic (12 goals) and Chelsea (10 goals).
