Highlights of Guangzhou Auto Show 2022-23
The 2022 Guangzhou Auto Show opened its doors on December 30, making for an event with a rather awkward time.
Running until 8 January, the Guangzhou 2022 show – arguably more like the 2023 show due to the delayed opening – is perhaps not the most notable show, with one exception.
An IAT Automobile concept car caught fire, causing an embarrassing PR incident and emitting an unpleasant smell of burning metal and wet carpet.
That aside, there have been some new product revelations in key segments that have gone rather smoothly.
GAC Aion Hyper GT
Hometown brand GAC arrived at the Guangzhou show with a swaggering four-door electric coupe from its Aion brand.
The GAC Aion Hyper GT has an impressive scissor door, a slick styling said to be inspired by liquid metal, and a claimed drag coefficient of just 0.19, surpassing Mercedes-Benz EQS’ number 0.20. As a result, the GAC Aion claims that it has the lowest drag coefficient of any production car currently available in the world.
It has a closed front fender with lower air intakes that can automatically open at a set speed to help reduce wind resistance. Similarly, the rear spoiler will rise when the vehicle reaches a speed of 80km/h.
Full specs, including dimensions, are yet to be announced but GAC Aion says the Hyper GT uses the new dedicated electric-powered AEP3.0 architecture.
The rear-wheel drive version has an engine that produces 250kW of power and 434Nm of torque, accelerating from 0-100km / h in 4.9 seconds. However, a dual-engine version is expected.
Although the interior has not been revealed, we can monitor a large, vertically oriented central touchscreen on the dashboard. The Hyper GT also has a glass roof, as well as a cover for the LiDAR device above the windshield.
Chery Tiggo 9
Chery has a range of SUVs that carry not only the namesake brand but also the Exeed and Jetour brands.
The Tiggo 9 sits on top of eight SUV models with the powerful Chery Tiggo badging and measures 4820mm long, 1930mm wide and 1699mm tall on a 2820mm wheelbase – virtually identical to one. Kia sorento.
It has a high waistline and sloping tailgate, though the Chery doesn’t use full-coupe SUV styling – like the Sorento, it boasts a third row of seats.
A full-width LED light cluster at the back has a bit Audi Q8 about it, while the front has a large shield-shaped grille featuring an illuminated Chery badging.
Chery didn’t reveal the full specs, but China Automotive News The Tiggo 9 reports that it uses a turbocharged 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine that produces 194 kW of power and 400 Nm of torque, combined with an 8-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive.
It is unclear if Tiggo 9 will join the local lineup.
Chery is set to restart in Australia this year with a series of three crossovers: the small SUV Omoda 5, about the same size as one Kia Seltos; Tiggo 7 Pro, located in the small and medium SUV segment in terms of size; and the two- or three-row Tiggo 8 Pro are roughly the same size Mitsubishi Outlander.
Haval H-Dog PHEV
There may be only two Haval-badged SUVs currently on sale in Australia, but the Haval lineup continues to grow in China with the new H-Dog plug-in hybrid SUV.
It has a turbocharged 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine and a two-speed Direct Hybrid Transmission, for a total system output of 240 kW and 530 Nm of torque.
It measures 4705mm long, 1908mm wide and 1780mm tall on a 2810mm wheelbase, or 90mm longer than TOYOTA RAV4 on a 120mm longer wheelbase.
It has the same aesthetic design as the other Dogs in Haval’s kennel, the Medium Large Dog (aka Dagou/Dargo) and is slightly smaller. cool dog. It has solid design touches like black plastic wheel arches with exposed pins, and like the other Dogs, it has a single round headlight.
However, the bulging hips and rounder rear with circular lighting elements give it a unique look.
Inside, there’s a large horizontally oriented central touchscreen and digital instrument cluster.
A filing with China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology reveals the H-Dog – if it is so called – will also have a variant with a 175 kW turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder.
Tank 300 Cyber Knight and Iron Cavalry 02
In addition to the display of the new 500 PHEV Tank – possibly one of some electrified GWM models to Australia – Great Wall Motor also revealed 2 special versions 300s tank.
Cyber Knight is developed by both Tank and Chaojing brands, with a black painted design and a more aggressive body kit. It appears to be a production version of the 2021 Cybertank concept and will only be available in black – although there is a choice of bold orange or blue highlights inside and out.
The Iron Cavalry 02 is a special off-terrain version co-developed with Topfire, featuring unique bumpers, electric winch, snorkel, classic 17-inch wheels in off-road tires and eight-level damping. . Damping.
Both special editions feature the standard turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder offered on the China-spec Tank 300, not the locally-supplied hybrid powertrain.
