Holiday surprise: Single mom in Stockbridge gets keys to her dream home for Christmas | News
STOCKBRIDGE (CBS46) – A Stockbridge family was quite surprised on Tuesday after receiving the keys to their brand new home.
Shaneeka said she was excited when she pulled into her driveway, but stunned when she realized it was fully furnished and decorated.
“Oh my, I love it,” Shaneeka said. “Everything I want is here.”
The single mother of three has always dreamed of becoming a homeowner, but the barriers created by the huge down payment cannot be overcome.
“We always lived in the same house and never had a house of our own,” she said.
For the past two decades, the Warrick Dunn Charity has been working to help single parents achieve their first-time home ownership goals through Holiday Homes.
“Working on this program is really about how we can help families enjoy the holidays, enjoy the fruits of their labor,” says Dunn. “They worked for it; We just want to be able to support them and push them forward. ”
While the new home was earned and funded through Habitat for Humanity, Shaneeka surprised with a $5,000 prepaid support check from the Warrick Dunn Charity and $10,000 worth of furniture from Aaron’s. .
With tears in her eyes, Shaneeka said she is happy to know her family is no longer forced to share a common space.
“We [were] live in the same bed and now they have their own space,” she said. “They can do what they own.”
She says she’s grateful that what once filled her vision board is now in front of her eyes.
“This is nothing but God, this is none of my business,” Shaneeka said. “I just prayed, and he answered my prayer.”
