Honda ZR-V confirmed to Europe, hints at new Australian SUV

Honda Europe confirmed that they will introduce a new SUV next year called ZR-Vslit between the present HR VUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU and CR-VAT in Honda’s lineup – and it’s definitely coming to Australia.

The brand has confirmed the crossover will be equipped with the e:HEV hybrid powertrain and will “go on sale across European markets in 2023”. No images were provided other than the new badge, but we think we know what it will look like.

Last week, the director of Honda Australia, Stephen Collins, confirmed to CarExpert local arm is planning to release a new SUV in the next 12-18 months That would split between the HR-V and CR-V, offering hybrid power – sounds familiar?

“For customers who want five seats and/or more practicality, we are confident we will be able to accommodate those needs.” [with the new SUV model]Mr. Collins said.

“What we’re going to see over the next 12 to 18 months, is a lineup of three distinct SUVs.”

The crossover in question is most likely a version of 2023 Honda HR-V for North American marketdiffers from the global model sold in Japan, Europe and, more recently, Australia.

It is based on the new 11th generation civic small car and is a larger vehicle that is said to be closer in size to something like Nissan qashqai or Mazda CX-5.

At the HR-V presentation in the US market, the new model will be sold in other markets such as Europe with a new name, which we know will now be the ZR-V.

Given its close family ties to the new Civic, the Honda ZR-V will likely be offered with 134kW/240Nm turbocharged 1.5-litre petrol and 135kW/315Nm 2.0-litre petrol. E: HEV depending on the market.

Europe is likely to get the hybrid only. However, for markets like Australia with more lenient emissions regulations, a more affordable petrol version should be offered.

Given the lack of visuals and clear mention of the HR-V for the US market, it’s also possible that the global version of the new crossover will have a slightly different look than its US equivalent.
