How going to Blonde helped Billie Eilish feel more comfortable in public

In her latest interview with Vanity Fair—fifth installment of the pop sensation in the Time Capsule series — published Tuesday, November 30, the “Therefore I Am” singer discussed the many changes she’s made over the past 12 months via. Giving up on her second year effort Happier than ever amid the ongoing coronavirus pandemic to explore a new sense of confidence and maturity in her personal life, Eilish’s 2021 is an introspective experience.
One obvious change for the pop star is swapping out her signature super neon hairstyle for a more prominent and mature platinum blonde. And the change isn’t just profound for Billie. She told the director that the new icy locks really made her feel more comfortable in public.
“My attitude used to be ‘I can’t go out, I can’t go here, I can’t go there,'” Eilish recalls in horror. “I couldn’t go to the park or go out for coffee, which freaked me out. But last year, I was more open to it.”
No longer easy to spot, she notes that going blonde gives her a bit of autonomy in front of a crowd. “If I’m cautious and don’t try to show people’s faces, that’s great…”, she said. “I couldn’t do it because my pride was too great. I said, ‘I just want to be seen if I’m like me.” So I would never wear anything casual. “
