Microsoft has been improved based on it Edge Browser and entice users to switch to it from Chrome by even calling it the best browser for Windows. However, the move to Edge did not happen as the company could have targeted and Google Chrome still leading the market. Now, Microsoft has another trick to get more users to adopt Edge. The tech giant will indeed add a free VPN to its Edge browser, which may prompt more users to switch to Edge. The feature is detailed on the company’s support page.
The tech giant calls the feature ‘Microsoft Edge Safe Network’, currently in preview. What is the goal of “Safe Network”? Encrypt your internet connection to protect you from hackers, keep you from being tracked online and keep your location private, which is what is expected from a VPN service. Microsoft has partnered with Cloudflare for a VPN service.
You’ll get 1GB of free data per month when you sign in to Microsoft Edge with their Microsoft account.
How to enable and use Microsoft Secure Network
To use it and get familiar with the feature, you need to sign in with your Microsoft account to Edge, go to ‘Settings and more’ and click ‘Safe Network’. After that, the VPN will be active and your browser frame will have a solid shield icon. This feature will automatically turn off when you close the Edge browser, and you will have to re-enable the feature if you want to use it next time.
This feature is currently in preview. Chances are Edge Insiders will use this feature first. The final build is expected to roll out in a few weeks.
Please note that it is a completely free VPN and by offering this in Edge, Microsoft has certainly made the game of browser domination as enjoyable as its rivals, Google and Mozilla, allow VPN services in their browsers but they are paid services.
