Here’s our look back at Reverse Week — right here at Green car report—For the week ending April 8, 2022.
This week, the main event is the one we attended last week — but can tell you about the first this week: a first drive of the 2022 GMC Hummer EV. Efficiency aside, we found that this massive truck lives up to its bill and is something of a departure from the Rivian R1T. It’s an electric truck for truck fans, not a truck for EV fans.

GM and Honda have expanded their partnership to jointly develop a new global vehicle architecture for “millions” of affordable electric cars. The platform will be based on what is so far considered to be the next-generation version of GM’s Ultium battery technology.
Tesla CEO Elon Musk presided over ceremonies at the company’s massive party celebrating Giga Texas, and the message was clear: It’s going to be huge. Musk emphasizes the importance of scalingteased its Optimus robot and a dedicated robotaxi that will launch next year and provide an update on the Cybertruck.

esla also reported some great news last weekend — a record number of deliveries in the first quarter of 2022, despite supply chain struggles. This is the first quarter of production from the three continents counted in the first quarter, although its factory in China remains temporarily closed due to outages.
Car rental giant Hertz will soon offer Polestar EVs in the US, Europe and Australia. It plans to buy up to 65,000 vehicles from the brand, as it also expands its fleet of EVs with the Tesla Model 3 and Model Y.
Lexus has fully revealed it RZ 450h electric SUV in production formon April 20. And we’re not afraid to point out that its teaser includes a fork — perhaps building on Toyota’s development efforts with steering technology, which can make it’s better than Tesla’s system.
Sono Sion solar powered electric vehicle
Sono Motors announced that they are converting contract manufacturers for Sono Sion EV adds solar power. It’s currently made by Finland’s Valmet — possibly in the same facility as another much-anticipated solar car, Lightyear One.
Porsche continue to invest in synthetic fuels for internal combustion vehicles, with an announcement this week. It sees synthetic fuels made from renewables as a business opportunity — perhaps one that extends beyond racing and classic car fuels to aviation.
Teaser EV by DeLorean
The DeLorean Motor Company franchise is back — but not this time in a “Back to the Future” revival. It confirms, with a first tease, that All-electric sports car coming soon would be the beginning of something that flashed past that nostalgia.
Fisker recently confirmed one of the best battery warranties in the industry on the upcoming Ocean EV — 75% of original capacity guaranteed for 10 years or 100,000 miles. In separate ways, that’s better than Tesla or Rivian.
Chinese electric vehicle maker Nio is said to be considering produce a line of smartphones. They will not compete with Apple or Samsung, but support their infrastructure and technology and provide a flexible experience.

This week, President Biden and members of the administration met with auto industry leaders — including Tesla’s Elon Musk, Lucid’s Peter Rawlinson, GM’s Mary Barra, Ford’s Jim Farley and executives other passengers—discuss electric vehicles and chargers. Interoperability and seamless user experience are among the key points. President Biden also turned to the Defense Production Act last week to help electric vehicle supply chain support—And rapid redevelopment of the infrastructure needed for mining and materials. Will it help reduce America’s dependence on China?
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration announced that consider potentially defective battery from LG Energy Solution, to ensure that all were recovered. So far, the fire-related issue has affected plug-in vehicles from GM, Hyundai, Mercedes-Benz, Stellantis and Volkswagen.
