Hybrid work: How to get the most out of a flexible work setup

After more than two years of working from home, many Canadians are slowly returning to the office as many COVID-19 public health restrictions are lifted. While some may welcome the idea of ​​no longer working from home, others may not want to give up the flexibility of remote work.

Mohit Rajhans, a communications consultant at ThinkStart.ca, says for those who are still apprehensive about going back to the office full-time, a hybrid arrangement could be one. This is a model that combines remote work with office work. A recent survey conducted by Amazon Business found that 43% of Canadian workers said they would likely look for a new job if they were forced to work full-time in an office.

“We’re building, in real time, the efficiency equation,” Rajhans told CTV’s Your Morning on Wednesday. “How can we prove that we are really qualified to be able to handle this mixed work situation, [that] does it work for all different types of people and can it accommodate any kind of situation that is put in front of them? ”

Rajhans says the shift to remote working has led to greater digital integration. This places an emphasis on ensuring employees have access to the tech tools they need to be productive, he said.

“Some people are denied access to basic high-speed Internet and [unable] Rajhans said. “What we have to do is focus on how to scale our workforce [and] How to make sure everyone feels like they have equal flexibility. “

Increased digital integration in the workplace has also raised concerns around surveillance, Rajhans said. This may involve capturing images and videos that can be stored and shared over communication networks for employee monitoring purposes, as well as mining pool chats, he said.

“Companies don’t include these tools just because they want to make your life easier,” says Rajhans. “They also need to understand a little bit about what makes the company successful.”

Rajhans recommends that workers read their work agreements to better understand what this oversight can be like. While there are advantages to a hybrid work arrangement, including not having to spend a lot of time commuting, much of the work is still about making sure everyone has access to it, says Rajhans. the tools and knowledge needed to make matching work accessible and effective, says Rajhans.

“You can give us all the tools we need, but if you don’t know how to use them effectively, we’re not really solving the problem,” says Rajhans. “We had to make some people a little more savvy to be able to use these tools properly.”
