Hyundai Ioniq 5 2023 price and specs: More range and tech for EV

The 2023 Hyundai Ioniq 5 is getting an increase in power and range plus a new shipping and handling package, while a new top variant will bring more technology.

The first of the updated models will launch in October, with Dynamiq and Techniq prices increasing by $2100 and $2000, respectively.

All models have a larger 77.4kWh lithium-ion battery, replacing the old 72.6kWh unit, crash range in the rear-wheel drive Dynamiq from 481 km to 507km and in all-wheel drive models from 430km to 454km.

Power also increased, with RWD models now in production 168kW power and 350Nm Torque and production AWD model 239kW and 605Nm – the former increased by 8kW, the latter by 14kW.

All models get a new ride and handling package, and Hyundai says wheel control, collision absorption and body control are key focuses for its engineers. It promises a ‘perfect’ blend of ride comfort and engaging dynamics “no matter the road or the surface”.

The new Epiq model, available only with two-engine full-time four-wheel drive, sits at the top and launches a trio of features for the Australian market.

Digital side mirrors, like related ones Genesis GV60, projecting camera footage from the outside of the vehicle onto two dedicated OLED screens in the cabin. They are said to reduce blind spots, while the external camera units reduce aerodynamic drag.

A new high-efficiency heat pump system helps to heat the cabin, combining waste heat energy from other systems to heat the cabin.

Finally, battery conditioning is said to improve both driving performance and DC charging in colder climates. By setting the DC charger as the navigation target, you can preheat the battery to ensure the fastest possible charge.

The next batch of Ioniq 5s will be available to order online from October 26, 2022 at 1pm AEDT.

More than 200 cars will be available across Dynamiq and Techniq, across all states and territories, except the Northern Territory.

However, the new Epiq flagship will not be included in this batch. Hyundai says it will be due at the end of 2022.

Maintenance intervals are extended from 12 months or 15,000 km to 24 months or 30,000 km, whichever comes first.
