Hyundai reveals an electrified future at CES with new PnD platform
Hyundai present at CES with both transportation related fields robot and a pitch for the future of the metaverse. As compelling as the metaverse sounds, we’ll stick with real-world moving objects, because this is Automatic log afterall.
The first peel That moves people – there are two – Hyundai is considered a mother shuttle. Those are the extra-large shells you see on the street in the photo at the top of this post. Their use case is pretty obvious from the photo. It is essentially a large block designed to hold other smaller blocks and transport them to their shared destinations.
If you take off your CES glasses for a second, the mom shuttle starts to look more like a less efficient bus than a great way to get around the city. You can fit what appears to be eight groups in a single portable module, which is as good as one small truck. Even so, occupants feel more comfortable in their individual compartments and don’t have to interact with others in the same transport module, but it’s still far less useful than a car. bus when moving a large number of people.
The pods themselves are called personal portable PnD cases, and they’re built on top of Hyundai’s “Plug & Drive” modular platform revealed at CES. It’s the only device used to move people, but Hyundai suggests several other use cases with heads other than platforms aimed at moving things other than humans. Hyundai says the Personal Mobility compartment is intended to provide a “comfortable experience upon arrival while protecting individual privacy.” The compartments travel autonomously in the city, and Hyundai says it’s an hour’s drive time and takes two hours to recharge.
Their best use case seems like it would be for people with limited mobility. That would be a much better way of getting around than a wheelchair. Hyundai says it’s self-driving with the lidar sensor and camera, but you can also control it manually with a joystick. However, the world that Hyundai envisions with these pods filled with a city roadway doesn’t look like an entirely fun future. They take up too much sidewalk space for people to ride around in their own personal cars, and it serves as another reason to avoid walking.
