HIGHLIGHTS
- Ben Foakes scored 113 points against SA in the 2nd test
- South Africa are trailing 264 runs in their first inning
- Ben Foakes scored his first century test score in 2018
England goalkeeper Ben Foakes was in high spirits after he scored his second Test century goal in the ongoing Test against South Africa at Old Trafford in Manchester. Foakes remained undefeated with 113 runs in nine games and gave the Three Lions a first-round lead with 264 runs.
Foakes also entered into a 173-time partnership with Ben Stokes, who signed up for his first century as England Test captain.
After Stokes overcame Kagiso Rabada, Foakes put together a convenient 41-lap running position with Stuart Broad, who threw his bat to score 21 of 14 balls.
Meanwhile, Foakes, 29, rates his century higher than the one he scored against Sri Lanka four years ago in Galle.
“It’s been amazing. It’s been an exciting journey since my debut, to be on the sidelines and get the strange opportunity. To get to one hundred now, I appreciate it more than your debut. himself”, Foakes is quoted on BBC Test Match Special.
Foakes also thinks England are at the helm in the ongoing game. At the end of the second day of competition, South Africa were going through 241 runs with all points intact in the second half.
“We’re in a great position and hopefully the wicket gets worse when it’s in our hands. There are a few cracks and if they open it won’t be any worse for us.” he added.
Dean Elgar and Sarel Erwee were the ones who beat South Africa overnight and their mission was cut off on day four of the match.
