I found the severed HEAD cooking on the stove in the lair of the cannibal killer who killed his lover and tried to feed him his children

A HERO cop has revealed how he still has nightmares after finding a murder victim’s head stewed in a pot as he raided a cannibal’s lair.

Veteran detective Robert Wells told The Sun Online how he captured the notorious murderer Katherine Knight, who killed her lover and tried to raise him for his children.

“This is what pushed me over the edge. I think it turned a lot of guys on [that day]”, Wells said.

Co described the horror scene as “never leaving” his mind and added that he still had “bad dreams and nightmares”.

Knight stabbed his mate John Price with a butcher’s knife at least 37 times before chopping him up, cooking him and serving him to his children in Muswellbrook, Australia.

The grisly murder shocked an entire nation and saw Canberra convict her first female killer to live behind bars without parole.

Some 22 years on, detective Robert Wells, the lead investigator, is still haunted by what he saw.

Police discovered a horror movie-like scene – with Price’s head still stewing a “big boiler”.

Knight – who remains in prison to this day – was a slaughterhouse worker and put her skills to terrible use in February 2000.

She stabbed him in the chest before skinning him, beheading him, and hanging his flesh with a meat hook.

The killer then cooked parts of his body with the intention of feeding his children – and is said to have eaten part of his body before throwing the meal in the garden.

Knight initially insisted she had no recollection of the horrific crime.

NSW Wells police told The Sun Online he remembers receiving a call from an “overloaded” junior inspector at the scene.

The police were hidden by John’s colleagues, who feared for his safety after he failed to show up for work.

The junior inspector who first arrived at Muswellbrook’s house scoured the crime scene and immediately called his superior saying “it was too big of a job for him” but gave no further details.

Detective Wells was immediately suspicious.

He told The Sun Online: “A couple of boys in uniform went there on the way from Muswellbrook police station.

Then we examined the lid and removed it from the large boiler, where [John’s] first is

“They got a call there and found the back door was actually open so they went in and saw John Price’s mutilated body, decapitated and skinned, then walked down the hallway to the room. sleep exactly where they found it. [Knight] awake in bed. “

After the gruesome murder, Knight left the house, withdrew money from John’s bank, and returned to the crime scene where she took an overdose of drugs that left her unable to kill.

She later told police she had no idea what had happened and claimed she was a victim of domestic abuse – something Detective Wells ruled out after talking to her former partners.

Knight’s ex David Saunders said he was regularly beaten in surprise attacks.

He recalls one night five minutes late from the pub to find Knight standing on their doorstep with a puppy in his arms. She cuts off its head and tells Saunders that if he “keeps going, you’ll get it”.

Detective Wells said: “In interviewing them, they more or less painted a picture that was consistent with her being there until the abuse occurred, the dominant element in a relationship.”

The policemen on duty that day were able to finally wake Knight up and send her back to the bloody hallway.

Detective Wells told us: “There was a lot of blood in the hallway, which started high and then ended low because she apparently stabbed him and then she chased him down the hallway, stab him.

“He actually made it to the front door and the front door just opened. But by that stage, he was stabbed to the point of collapsing and dying.”

The retired police officer was the first senior detective to arrive on the scene and recalls seeing plates stacked on the dining table with food on them and John’s children’s names written on duct tape.

“I saw Price’s body on the floor with his head missing,” he told us.

“I saw his complete skin, what you call skin, complete in one piece with a butcher’s hook through the top of the scalp and through the hair and the hanger, hooking through the documents storage of the threshold from the dining area to the living room .

“He was hanged.

“After that, we just had a quick look at the hall and the bloodstains, then went to the stove on the kitchen bench, where there were some meals made with some meat and vegetables.

“We then looked at the lid and removed it from the large boiler, where [John’s] head is. “

Detective Wells said Knight planned to serve her lover’s body to his children and is understood to have eaten a portion of himself.

This heinous act surprised those who knew Knight little.

Journalist Peter Lalor wrote in his book Bloodstains that Knight “loved” eviscerating animals at the slaughterhouse and hung her first set of butcher knives on her bed.

In 1974, she married her first husband David Kellett, with whom she frequently beat. On the day of their marriage, Kellett’s mother warned him that Knight had “a screw somewhere”.

It is thought that Knight began strangling her new husband when he rejected their marriage for the fourth time on their wedding night.

Kellett later fled the family home fearing for her life but not before she placed their two-month-old baby on the local train tracks as part of a plot to bring her husband back. again.

She then began a relationship with Saunders, who also ran away and tried to kill him with a pair of scissors.

Knight continued to meet John and moved in together in 1995.

According to the documentary Beyond the Darklands, the relationship was very happy but quickly turned violent when Knight hit and stabbed John.

A deranged Knight is trying to make John’s life miserable and tries to control his every move.

She accused John of stealing things from his job and getting him fired then tried to stab him in the chest weeks before he was killed.

To torment John further, she will lie to his children that they do not belong to him.

On February 29, Knight will make his last but dangerous attempt at John’s life.

According to the evidence, the bloodthirsty slaughterhouse worker hid a butcher knife by her bed and waited for John to lie down before hurling the knife into his chest and abdomen.

She then dragged his body down the stairs, skinned it, and hung it on a meat hook in the living room.

John was beheaded and his body was cut into small pieces to be cooked and served with a plate of potatoes, pumpkin, beets, zucchini, cabbage, squash, and gravy that Knight had eat.

Detective Wells said the “barbarity” of Knight’s heinous crimes led to him developing PTSD.

“At that stage, I had more than 20 years of working with the police force and I went through a few things,” he said.

“If you’re an active cop and you’re going to a crime scene, as part of your daily duties, you’re going to get hit after a while.

“But this is something like the straw that broke the camel’s back.

In October 2001, Knight pleaded guilty and was escorted out of prison with her papers marked “never released”.

The mother-of-four maintains her chastity and will spend the rest of her life at the brutal Silverwater Women’s Correctional Center in Sydney.

Despite her plea, Detective Wells said Knight never showed remorse.

“I interviewed her for a few hours, but she completely denied anything had happened,” he said.

“I think she’s a rejecter but she’s a very, very strong person in herself. She’s a tough, hard-working woman. She’s smart enough to know what’s up. will happen.”

The Australian policeman said he never suspected Knight brutally killing her partner.

He said, “You know when you catch someone’s eye, you know they’re lying to you. You just have to catch that look – you don’t get it all the time, but you only catch it momentarily. and you say, she knows what’s going on.”

The presiding judge of Knight’s case echoed Well’s sentiments.

“His observations showed that she showed no pity. She showed no remorse. He said it was a cold, brutal and calculated murder.”
