‘I’m just glad I’m alive’: Winnipeg man concerned about neighbourhood safety following shooting – Winnipeg

A Winnipeg man is grateful to be alive after he was shot exterior his Elmwood neighbourhood dwelling early Thursday morning.

Joshua Carpenter says he went for a stroll round 1 a.m. Thursday to stretch out a leg cramp when he observed a suspicious group of individuals exterior his work truck within the 200 block of Poplar Avenue.

“I used to be strolling round this work truck right here and a pair guys simply popped up from the aspect of it and as we strolled down the highway collectively, me in the course of the highway and them on the sidewalk,” Carpenter advised World Information.

“We walked previous a pair autos and I circled and stopped and pulled out a cigarette and my cellphone, and as I received on that, the man on the sidewalk began taking pictures at me.”

Carpenter was shot in his hip and hamstring.

“I received hit as soon as and needed to look all the way down to see what the hell I received hit by trigger it didn’t really feel like a bullet, it stung like a paintball. After which I noticed it was a bullet and it went proper via.”

He says the suspects sped off in a car with no lights on. He tried to get images of the car earlier than going dwelling and calling 911. He was rushed to hospital in steady situation and is now recovering at dwelling.

Carpenter says this isn’t the primary time they’ve skilled crime within the neighbourhood. He has younger youngsters and says his household is now in search of one other, safer neighbourhood to maneuver to.
