IND vs SA 2022: Zaheer Khan on one area where Rishabh Pant can improve as captain
Before India pacer Zaheer Khan stated that Rishabh Pant relying too much on his instincts when given the captain’s armband. Zaheer has found similarities between the youngster’s batting and leadership, pointing out that for him, the two extremes.
Sacked for being ungrateful 17 out of 23, Pant got some respite as India won against T20I for the fourth time South Africa by 82 runs to equalize a five-game streak at 2-2. Critics were reasonably impressed with the goalkeeper’s armband as India’s pitchers swept the Proteas for 87, defending a total of 169.
Speaking after the game, Zaheer also praised Pant. However, he did have captaincy advice for young players. In a discussion about Cricbuzzformer cricketer replied:
“When he scores, people talk about him. When he’s not, people still talk about him. There is a similar archetype in his captaincy. We have to give him time. He likes to think out of the box. He tries to follow his instincts too much. He likes to take advantage of a lot of opportunities. He has to find that balance when he makes extreme decisions. It was like his way of hitting the ball.”
However, Zaheer praised the youngster’s attitude towards the game and asserted that the 24-year-old is sure to get better as an experienced cricketer. 43 year old man says:
“One thing that stands out about him is that he is very serious about his cricket. That no one can question. He is very passionate about the game. He wants to do things at a fast pace. With time, he will get what he wants because he knows where he is going.”
In the four games of the T20I series so far, the Indian captain has scored scores of 29, 5, 6 and 17.

Ahead of the decisive match in Bengaluru, Zaheer insisted that Team India had no reason to make any changes to their current roster. He say:
“That is the mark of the series. They didn’t go any other way, knowing that this was the squad they believed in.
However, he warned India not to be complacent and urged them to play the last game with the same intensity. Zaheer added:
“Look at the balance, all the options are there. Four hunters, two quality spinners – covering most of the base. Now, they want a strong finish, creating confidence that they are. can come back after any situation.”
The final T20I match of the series between India and South Africa will be held at Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Sunday (June 19).
