Indian doctors treat Nigerian girl born with external organs

“One in every 5,000 babies in the world is born with this rare condition, called omphalocele. It arises due to a defect in the abdominal wall. The intestines, liver or other organs of an infant. protruding from the abdomen through the navel (abdomen) in a thin, almost transparent pouch of skin, creating an odd appearance for the patient,” said Dr. in a statement.

He added: “Treatment is a major challenge, and the condition is associated with an increased risk of severe disease in survivors.

Goel notes that in such conditions, space for organs to hang in the abdomen does not exist inside the body.

“This gap has to be artificially created in the abdomen to push the liver and intestines back into their natural positions. This puts a lot of pressure on organs like the kidneys, heart and lungs, which can stop working. It also led to difficulty breathing for Goel said.

After the surgery, the girl was put on a ventilator for two days to support her breathing. After observing her for another five days, the child was discharged.

“We hope the patient will lead a completely normal life from now on, without the need for further treatment related to the disease,” the doctors said.

“This is like my daughter’s second child, and we all want her to have a normal life like any other child her age. I can’t thank the doctors enough. about this medical miracle,” said the girl’s mother, Aisha Mohammed.
