During the same period, an additional 380 people could not cope with the virus, bringing the nationwide death toll to 4,85,035.
So far, a total of 28 states have discovered the new highly transmissible variant, the ministry said.
The recovery of 84,825 patients in the last 24 hours brings the cumulative total to 3,47,115,361. Hence, India’s recovery rate is 95.59%.
During the same period, the whole country had a total of 18,86,935 inspections carried out, bringing the overall figure to more than 69.73 crore.
While the weekly positivity rose to 10.80% amid the sudden resurgence, the daily positivity stood at 13.11%.
With the administration of more than 76,000 doses of vaccine in the last 24 hours, India’s COVID vaccination coverage reached 154.61 crore as of Thursday morning.
